Certification

IDFO - International Drilling Fluids Organization provides structured certification designed to assess and validate professional competency in drilling fluids engineering.

All certifications are awarded based on independent examinations conducted exclusively by IDFO, ensuring objective, consistent, and standardized assessment across all candidates.

Training and candidate preparation are delivered exclusively through IDFO Approved Learning Partners, while all examinations remain under the direct control of IDFO.

IDFO certification is built on three core principles:

1- Independent Examination

All candidates are assessed through examinations conducted solely by IDFO. This ensures impartiality, consistency, and full control over the certification process.

2- Competency-Based Assessment

Certification is awarded based on demonstrated technical competency. Training participation and attendance alone do not qualify a candidate for certification.

3- Industry Alignment

All certification levels are aligned with real drilling fluids operations, ensuring relevance to field, engineering, and technical roles.

IDFO offers a structured four-level certification system:

• Level 1 – Foundation Certificate

• Level 2 – Operational Certificate

• Level 3 – Professional Certificate

• Level 4 – Specialist Certificate

Each level represents a progressive stage of knowledge, application, and technical responsibility.

1. Registration

Candidates must register through an IDFO Approved Learning Partner, which facilitates access to the examination process.

Before accessing the examination, candidates must review and accept the IDFO Examination Terms and Conditions prior to attempting the exam.

2. Preparation

Training is delivered by approved partners in alignment with IDFO competency frameworks and standards.

3. Examination (Conducted by IDFO)

• All examinations are administered and controlled exclusively by IDFO

• Delivered through a secure and standardized examination system

• Includes technical, analytical, and application-based questions

• Designed to evaluate real-world competency

4. Results

• Results are issued based on predefined pass criteria

• Assessment is conducted objectively and independently by IDFO

Upon successful completion of the examination, candidates receive an official IDFO certificate.

Each certificate includes:

• Candidate full name

• Certification level

• Unique Certificate ID

• Issue date

• Expiry date

IDFO certifications are valid for a defined period to ensure that certified professionals maintain up-to-date knowledge and competency.

Validity Period

All IDFO certifications are valid for:

Three (3) years from the issue date

Renewal Requirements

To maintain certification, candidates may be required to retake the certification examination.

Purpose of Validity

The defined validity period ensures that:

• Certified professionals remain aligned with current industry practices

• Technical knowledge is periodically reassessed

• Certification maintains its credibility and value

To maintain the credibility of its certification system, IDFO enforces strict controls, including:

• Full control over examination delivery

• Standardized assessment methodologies

• Monitoring of approved learning partners

• Defined policies to prevent misconduct and fraud

Any violation may result in suspension or revocation of certification.
